A Dissolving Film Could Replace Eye Drops for Ocular Drug Delivery

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – A dissolving film in development now may someday prove more effective than eye drops in treating eye conditions, new data from mouse trials suggests.

The “nanowafer,” as its developers call it, was twice as effective as eye drops when treating corneal neovascularization in mice, according to new research published online January 13 in ACS Nano, a journal by the American Chemical Society.

Human trials may begin within a year, the developers say.
